Having grown up in the banking industry I was fortunate enough to be taught how to create and maintain a budget as well as developing the self restraint and self awareness with my finances. With my current position and years of experience I could definitely be making about triple what I currently make stateside as opposed to on this island. Though, my bills are paid, my 401 is doing fine, I have health/dental, and I'm kept fed so I think I'm doing just fine in comparison to others. There are rough patches, and in this day and age the space between the rough patches are getting smaller. Though life is meant to have rough patches so we really shouldn't be awfully surprised. I've always been taught that they are just there to help strengthen the character of the person. There's always someone that is worse off than you are in one way or another.
Not at all, looking for a job currently, I could take any job but I really want to start out in my field (progressive advocacy/public policy). Hopefully something happens soon, but it dosn't look good.

Like you said though there is rough patches in life but making sure you are prepared by saving and budgeting will make that patch way more easier to deal with. I am currently unemployed but I am not feeling any pain because I saved a lot of money to last me atleast two years in my current situation plus I make side money online..
