I know that thread has died out, but this was irking me. I knew .999 forever could not be equaled to 1, and now I can prove it.
The example wikipedia gave:
.333 = 1/3
3 x 1/3= 1; 3 x .333= .999
So therefor, 1=.999 right? WRONG!
See there was this one really simple thing we all overlooked.
And that was .333 does not equal to 1/3. We assume it does, they teach us in school that it does, but in reality it does NOT equal to 1/3. Any logical person can see why this is true, .333 in fraction form would be equal to 1/3 and one third one third one third repeating. With this being said, the proof as to why .999=1 is not valid, therefor .999 does NOT equal to 1.
