I walk along the cold stones
My feet bare and warm from the summer air
I look up at the sky
Seeing the sun slowly setting
Knowing that my dad will be here soon
I can’t wait but I don’t want it to end
The last moment I’ll share a laugh here
With the people who cared the most
To take me in for a week
The last moment I’ll play hide-in-seek
In the yard that I hid in the most
To share my childish opportunities
Playing in the swing set I loved the most
The last moment I’ll ever feel the cool South Dakota breeze
That I learned to take it as a stress easing please
I’ll miss walking in the high hills and long roads
Having the freedom to do whatever I want
Not caring what’s at home
Knowing that my brother always has my back
And the school I go to is not much
But here I am
About to go
Not knowing what is a waiting ahead of me
Not knowing what will become of me
Who will become of me
My mom waves at me
I pack my bags
And as I look out the window
About to leave
I promise myself
That I’ll never forget
The place that made me
