From humble beginnings to a crumbled finish with lots between
Came the child of Sir Nightmare and Ms. Awesome Dream
A life of picture perfectness not often seen
Brought a death quite messy yet coffin clean.
Paradise on a cruise ship which lost its steam
Switched the mood set from calm to non-serene
with the chessboard shaken all the pawns and queens,
toppled over leaving rooks to stop loss of kings.
But with bishops attacking from angles unseen
victory was a dark sky of strangled sunbeams
these few rays of light were where the crosses gleamed
where this child religiously paid the cost to dream.
Chess became his metaphor for life's little game
check mate, game over, all in all little gained
after summer came fall, after fall winter came
after time a heart froze with the cold winter rain.
Every splash on the pane left the glass a new stain
the window to his soul now cracked by the strain
but he laughed at his pain and he screamed at delight
and he finally caught grasp of what seemed out of sight.
Mind and soul signified by the head of both teams
on that black and white squared world of deadly smoke screens
where he played one last time, him against his own schemes
made a final one handed move killing both kings.
